Man charged after pensioner (80s) assaulted and robbed exiting Lisburn train - victim left 'badly shaken' and 'large sum of cash' stolen

A man has been chargecd with robbery by police investigating a report of a man in his 80s being assaulted at the Derriaghy train halt in Lisburn on Sunday.

The 53-year-old man is due to appear before Lisburn Magistrates’ Court today (Tuesday, 16th August).

As is usual procedure, all charges will be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service.

The incident happened shortly before 5pm on Sunday, 14th August.

Earlier in a statement the PSNI said as a result of the assault, a large sum of cash was taken from the victim’s wallet.

And the victim’s phone may also have been stolen from his pocket, whilst on the train.

The PSNI add that the victim was left badly shaken.
