Police have said a suspicious object found in west Belfast on Saturday morning was a '˜viable device'.

The security alert in Ramoan Drive, Belfast has now ended after police and ATO attended the scene.

A number of residents had to be evacuated.

Inspector Mark Kavanagh said: “ATO examined a suspicious object and declared it a viable device. It has been taken away for further examination.

“Evacuated residents have been allowed back into their homes.”

Police have said they are now at the scene of a security alert at Glencolin Walk, Belfast following the discovery of a suspicious object
