James Cameron-Dow has been unveiled as the new director of youth cricket at Instonians Cricket Club.

The 30-year-old South African, who has played his cricket at both CIYMS and North Down since first coming to Northern Ireland, will be responsible for all the coaching at Inchmarlo, RBAI and at Instonians youth level.

The Ireland Test cricketer and Northern Knights star will also be promoting cricket at feeder schools in the south Belfast area.

In a statement, Instonians explained that the role Cameron-Dow would be taking on was an entirely new one and that he will be responsible for all under-18 cricket.

“James has had a long and successful cricket career representing the Northern Knights and Ireland. He has filled various coaching roles with both the NCU and University of Ulster,” said a club spokesman.

“We believe that the time is right to make this investment with youth cricket being so disrupted in 2020 and are really excited for all the children involved.

“We have had great numbers and quality coming through our youth system in years past, but feel like we can push on again and compete strongly in all the youth competitions, as well as filter more and more players every year into our senior teams.

“Instonians is and has been the standout youth club within the NCU for a while now. They clearly have serious ambition and drive, and want to achieve even better things going forward, and I’m very fortunate that I’m able to be included in those plans.

“It’s a really exciting role for me to be taking on, and my focus will be to continue building on the structure that is already in place and really make sure there is a clear pathway from school cricket right through into the senior club.”
