British film - Slumdog Millionaire - is up for a gong in ten separate categories and is tipped for success, having already won seven BAFTAs.
However, it faces stiff competition in the form of The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, which is up for 13 awards.
Bad boy Mickey Rourke seems a cert to nab Best Actor for his role in box office hit, The Wrestler.
Fellow favourite Kate Winslet could well be getting emotional if she claims the Best Actress Award in her only nomination for The Reader.
