36th Ulster Division deserve memorial

ON June 29 this year, I attended a Service of Remembrance at the 16th Irish Division Memorial beside the military cemetery in Wytchaete, Belgium.

I have been to this memorial several times and have often thought that it would be fitting and proper to have a memorial on the site to the men of the 36th Ulster Division as well.

As far as I am aware there is no specific memorial to the 36th Ulster Division in Belgium and, given that they fought side by side with the 16th Irish Division in the very successful Battle of Messines, I think an adjacent memorial would be most appropriate.

There is a perfect place on the site to accommodate this.

Obviously a project like this would require a lot of planning and finance but I am sure that with the assistance of the News Letter and other interested parties, plus the support of the people of Ulster, it could be achievable.
