Children are being deprived of help

THE Assembly is delaying its strategy for helping children in poverty.

Meanwhile, the Family Fund, which gives grants to help families with children with severe disabilities, has not received funding from our Department of Health, so Northern Ireland children are deprived of help that families in England, Scotland and Wales are still receiving.

I worked for the Family Fund for 30 years and was always full of admiration for the way families cope with the great amount of extra work, stress and increased costs of caring for children with severe disabilities.

The Family Fund gives grants for holidays, outings and extra equipment to help the whole family.

Northern Ireland has high levels of disability and of child poverty.

Why should our families be further deprived?
