March opposition a blow to democracy
WHAT a sad day for democracy and politics in general when the SDLP and Sinn Fein join forces to oppose the envisaged march commemorating the Kingsmills massacre in memory of 10 innocent workmen, brutally murdered for no other reason than they were Protestants.
The 1976 massacre plumbed the depths of naked sectarian bigotry.
What offence does this proposed march pose to any civilised human being?
Conor Murphy has stated the march is due to pass through a predominately nationalist village.
That’s as maybe, but the organisers have gone some distance in restricting numbers, etc.
This, to me, appears to be a case of Sinn Fein opposing it on the grounds that it highlights the IRA’s past atrocities which they don’t want resurrected because it embarrasses their perceived current stance in the peace process.
Yet they are not behind the door when it comes to commemorating their ‘foot soldiers’ who died.

Tuesday, February 21, 2012 at 03:36 PMI believe the Pentecostal pastor has suggested as they walk thought the town that the residents and the relatives should shake hands. Not a bad idea, thats of course if both sides could agree to do that.

Monday, February 20, 2012 at 10:38 PMIt was a disgusting and low life thing to do those workers... But with regards to the march, If it was just a commemoration march then why did they originally want to have marching bands?

Monday, February 20, 2012 at 10:06 PMDA Teirney will be every bit as vehement in his condemnation of the Reavey brothers murder. After all the RUC brought to justice more Loyalist killers than they did Republicans even though Republicans carried out the most murders.

Monday, February 20, 2012 at 09:23 PMNo doubt that Sinn Feins stance to this march has caused controversy.I trust D A Tierney RUC GC that you will be as vehement in your condemnation of the Reavey murders by the UVF in Whitecross the day before the Kingmill Massacre. Both families have suffered equally.
