Maze centre is ‘totally disgusting’

WITH hospitals and industry struggling for funding and financial solvency we are informed that the mandarins in Stormont, having pursued European money, are to allocate £18m to a conflict resolution centre at the Maze.

In reality, this signifies all that is wrong with our Stormont devolved government – waste and capitulation to a so-called peace process at any price.

Whilst it is portrayed to give some semblance of credibility to the questionable listing of the H-blocks at the Maze, it unfortunately confirms there will now be as Nigel Dodd’s once described it “a shrine to terrorists no matter what way it’s dressed up”.

It is therefore incredulous to have a number of elected representatives such as DUP Lagan Valley MP Jeffrey Donaldson now actively implicate and involve the various sections of Her Majesty’s armed forces in this project.

The very thought of bringing them down to a level and relationship to those that were responsible for the murder and injuries of so many of their colleagues and members of our community is both astounding and disgusting in the extreme.

Hillsborough

The IFA WAS in favour of a new stadium at the Maze. Howard Wells made several statements urging the politicians to build there. Truth is that it was mainly Linfield supporters who saw that a level playing fields would rob them of their state-funded sponsorship. Typical of the parish pump society in which we live.

Both Gaa and the Ulster branch of the IRFU do not represent NI on the internaional stage neither the Gaa or the IRFU recognise NI as a State within the United Kingdom so neither of these two associations should get a penny in funding.

MOD If I remember correctly it was the IFA that oppossed the joint stadium. The GAA and rugby although they had their own uncertainties were willing to go for it but the IFA pretty much vetoed the idea. It was also the IFA's incompetence and failure to put their house in order that has delayed the developments by a couple of years. As for the money, yes Casement will be an amazing facility but it is likely that the GAA is going to put 40 million of its own money in. The IFA are getting the same amount as the GAA but are splitting the money up, something which didnt seem to be allowed initially otherwise Im sure Ulster rugby would have asked for a bigger share. The money the IFA are getting would be enough for a nice new stadium probably enough to still relocate but obviously that sort of progressive move wouldnt interest them. If anyone should feel annoyed by the whole process it should be Ulster rugby

Agree ardens. Once again ..no vision. And Windsor Park gets a 'sticking-plaster' job while Casement Park gets a brand new stadium.

It was quite clear the Linfield and N.Ireland fans would never leave Windsor Park which brings in big bucks for Linfield.

As I mentioned before, they turned down a proposed new complex with state of the art new stadium using the excuse that it would only become a shrine to republicanism. Now its going to happen anyway. Now they are complaining. Have they no foresight? 'where there is no vision the people perish' However, I leave Mr Poots out of all this. Unlike his fellow party members he did push for the complex and stadium only to be overuled by the dinosaurs in his party.

Rut,h Jeffrey has to do what he is told in DUP and he can't haul his new party to the Waterfront Hall as he did when he split the UUP. Now he is reduced to supporting this terrorist shrine. Are their any politicians we can trust any more?
