Queen’s selfless devotion to duty
FEBRUARY 6 is still remembered as the day that King George V died.
It was a sad day for a nation and yet the beginning of a new era.
Princess Elizabeth proclaimed herself Queen on February 8, 1952 and her words were poignant: “By the sudden death of my dear father I am called to assume the duties and responsibilities of sovereignty. My heart is too full for me to say more to you today than I shall always work, as my father did throughout his reign, to advance the happiness and prosperity of my peoples, spread as they are all the world over.”
This she has done to the highest possible standard.
The Queen has provided stability and continuity through changing pime ministers, changing ideals and a changing world.
She has given of herself selflessly with a diligence that is difficult to match and she has maintained a quiet dignity through the journey of life in the public eye.
Having given 60 years of dedicated service to our nation, she is the epitome of a great lady.
