Raze prison, says Kingsmills family
I WOULD like to add my view and those of my family to oppose the retention of any building that was and still is associated with the Maze prison, ie the prison hospital, H-Block, watch-tower, etc.
I write as a victim of republican terrorists, whose older brother was murdered as an innocent victim in the Kingsmills massacre along with nine other innocent workers and one sole survivor.
On a cold, dark winter’s night these innocent men were stopped in their minibus and lined up.
After one gunman told the Catholic workman to walk down the road, the gunmen then opened fire at point-blank range upon the 11 innocent Protestant workers and, after falling to the ground, one gunman ordered the others to finish them off and a further number of shots were fired at each body lying on the ground.
The 11 innocent workmen had no weapons to protect themselves, except their lunch boxes and flasks, but unknown to the gunmen there was one survivor among the dead.
My family wishes to see the old buildings demolished because we are aware that at least one of those hunger strikers who died was involved in the murder of 10 innocent workmen.
He was caught a few months after the massacre in possession of a gun which was proved to be used in the murder of these innocent men.
As a family we believe that the Maze prison will be used as a ‘shrine’ to glorify terrorist murderers.
Some time ago William Frazer and myself were shown around the Maze prison by invitation of Northern Ireland officials and whilst there the official showed us the cell in which Bobby Sands died.
Whenever I asked him did he know the cell that any other prisoners shared, he said ‘No’.
Just imagine the spin that republican tour guides will add to their heroic freedom fighters’ reputations.
My mother, now aged 84, has always stated: “It is better to have a son murdered than to have a son that murders.” Unfortunately families of terrorists will never make this statement.
When is our government ever going to make these people confess and apologise to the families?
We wish to place on record our opposition to murder, wherever it comes from. We condemn all murders.
We need to move on, I agree, but innocent victims need to be at the forefront and never forgotten about.

Tuesday, February 14, 2012 at 11:39 PMI do not agree that there is justification for any rebuilding at the Maze prison old site. Shrines apart there are many other needs in our community including hospitals, education and infrastructure. The terrorizers, their families and cover-upers who murdered Mr Worton and his collegues live and die with it. ANY involvement, gun holding and the GREAT WALL OF SILENCE by those who know or knew is without moral principle. They hide in a dark place and fear only a cosy prison. What cowards! Principled people DONT object when the innocent want the world to remember those they have loved and lost a while due to the accountable deluded . Mrs Worton`s expression is incomparable "It is better to have a son murdered than a son that murders."

Tuesday, February 14, 2012 at 10:08 PMloe, would you call murdering people a principle,i would call it sectarian bigotry The fact that these terrorists committed suicide is no consolation or closure for the families of those who had loved ones murdered by these vermin and i agree that this monument to dead terrorist at Long Kesh shoud not go ahead. The Worton family should be supported in their quest to raze Long kesh to the ground

Tuesday, February 14, 2012 at 05:33 PMThe Kingsmills massacre was a shameful event, along with all the other shameful events that happened in the conflict. The Family say they are aware that one of the ten hunger strikers was involved in it? Who is it then? I doubt it very very much, the ten that died gave their lives for a principle... not the sort of action one would expect from sectarian bigots is it?
