BBC personality Alan Simpson, who was admitted to hospital after a heart scare, has told of his gratitude for the many messages of support he has been sent.
The Portrush man admitted himself to the Causeway Hospital, Coleraine, after suffering chest pains on Saturday.

A spokeswoman for the Causeway Hospital confirmed the radio presenter is being treated at the hospital.

She said: "He is in Causewa
y at the moment, is comfortable and is responding very well to treatment."

A spokesman for the BBC added: "We wish Alan a speedy recovery and our thoughts are with Alan, his partner and family at this time."

Mr Simpson, believed to be in his early 50s, presents BBC Radio Ulster's flagship daily afternoon show from 3pm to 5pm.

It is expected BBC Radio Fo-yle presenter Mark Patterson will take over his show for the duration of his illness.

A massive fan of Coleraine Football Club, the DJ regularly acts as compere at home games.

Coleraine manager Marty Quinn said staff at the club became aware of Mr Simpson's health scare when he failed to turn up at their Irish Cup match against Belfast side Brantwood at the Showgrounds on Saturday.

Mr Quinn wished his friend a speedy recovery.

He said: "I was made aware of the fact that he had a coronary problem prior to kick- off.

"I am very concerned about him and am keeping track of his situation."

He added: "He would be a popular man at this club and I have a lot of time for big Alan.

"He has done brilliantly with his programme on the BBC and is finding his level now. This will put him back.

"Since I took over at the club I have had many dark hours and big Alan has always been there and told me to keep my head up."
