A READER has been telling me about a Belfast couple in a crowded city centre doing their Christmas shopping.
As the wife walked along the bustling pavement she suddenly noticed that her husband was no longer at her side. She was quite upset because they had a lot of shopping to do, so she called him on her mobile phone to ask him where he was.
In a calm voice the husband said, ‘Honey, do you remember the jewellery store we went into about five years ago where you fell in love with a diamond necklace that we could not afford and I told you that one day I would get it for you?’ The wife, choked with emotion that he’d remembered her longing for the necklace, started to cry and said, ‘Oh darling, yes, of course I remember that day in the jewellery store.’ Her husband replied ‘Well honey, I’m in the pub next door!’
