Cleric wrong over Chinese display
IN response to the Rev Stephen Dickinson in your letters page (June 30), we would like to point out a few facts. We are proud to have been selected as a Flagship Twelfth and we believe the events leading up the Twelfth and on the day itself will be a major attraction for people in Co Armagh.
Mr Dickinson complained that the local Chinese community will provide a display in Tandragee on the Twelfth.
He has got his facts wrong. As reported, correctly in the News Letter on June 20, the Chinese community will in fact give their display on the Eleventh night, as part of a family and cultural evening.
The organisers have tried to embrace all aspects of local life in the week-long festival leading up the Twelfth.
We were pleased when the local Chinese community and martial arts club approached us about taking part on the Eleventh. They use public events like this for charity fund-raising.
Our aim is to create a week-long festival and a Twelfth that reflects well on Tandragee. To achieve this, we received financial backing from a wide variety of sources and we want to thank them all. Mr Dickinson suggests in his letter that we wanted to attract funding from Dublin.
We have received no funding from Dublin, nor did we apply for any.
We have no doubt that the community will support our events in huge numbers.
