I AM well known for my support of the Armed Forces – those who are serving and those who have served previously. In my position as an elected representative in council and also in the Assembly, I have sought to ensure that they are supported with correct gear, that their pay and injuries packages are adequate and, also, that loved ones at home can send them the mail that is necessary to keep their spirits up without paying an arm and a leg.
I have campaigned for welcome home parades to show our appreciation for those who fight for Queen and Country and the opportunity has come for me to do more.

I have the opportunity to make a difference in fundraising by holding the 'Big Brew Up'.
On Saturday October 4, I am hosting a coffee morning in aid of the SSAFA – Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families Association Forces Help in the Londonderry Room of Newtownards Town Hall.

This association helps those who serve, those who have served and their families, by providing a reliable, caring and trusted service to more than 50,000 people each year.

I am sure that you will agree, that support for those people and their families who have sacrificed everything is vital and the least we can do. For this reason, I ask that you would note this date in your diary and come down to the Big Brew Up in the Town Hall on October 4, any time from 10am – 2pm. Show your support for our forces and enjoy a coffee or tea and a traybake at the same time.

For those who enjoy baking, please feel free to bake some goods and let the girls in the office know what you are bringing.

I look forward to seeing you there, as we show our support for our forces in this small way, please make it your business to be there and give generously.

Your cup of coffee can help make a change!

Alderman Jim Shannon MLA
DUP Constituency Advice Centre
Newtownards
