Orange Order may not give parades notice

editorial image

The Orange order has said it is considering no longer giving notice of parades - after seeing weekly flag protests in Belfast which have not been subject to Parades Commission rulings.

A senior member of the organisation said the Order has noted that, because police have not been notified of the flag protests, the Parades Commission have not been able to rule on the demonstrations.

Reverend Mervyn Gibson, in an interview to be screened on Thursday night, told BBC Northern Ireland’s The View that the Order may consider the new move.

The Order is understood to be seeking legal advice on the matter.

It is understood they are legally required to give police notice of parades.
