Believe in yourself to sell yourself

Last week, we looked at the points to consider, when trying to change career or job. We examined all the details of what this dream job/business/career might look like.

Now we’re looking at the time that comes to further this, by attendance at an interview. And this is the time to start promoting the wonderful person a new employer can’t ignore: you.

Sell yourself! I don’t mean this negatively, but in a way which highlights the attributes and the benefits you will bring to any job/business/career.

EASY!

Not so for many people, it is at this point that many of my clients turn green and start to chant “I can’t, I can’t, I just can’t do it; I’m not confident.”

This statement is fuelled by a number of beliefs about the person or their capabilities.

I want you to consider at this point that you can be or do anything that you want to.

What are your limiting self beliefs about your ability?

Examples of limiting self beliefs:

“I have to work hard to earn a living.”

“I am not in control.”

“I am too old to apply for that job.”

So what do you tell yourself about you?

Write these things down on a piece of paper and read them out loud; are they reasonable things to think? Next ask the question: “Who says so?”

The answer is YOU DO! No one else is telling you the things you believe about your capabilities.

How do you change a limiting belief? Well, restate them positively.

“I have to work hard to earn a living,” can be changed to “I work at what I love doing and earn a lot of money.” Instantly, the feeling is different about the situation and yourself.

Changing limiting beliefs in this way also impacts on the level of confidence experienced in relation to self promotion.

So there’s no reason to wait a moment longer.

Step up to the plate, get yourself prepared for interview.

Preparation is the key to success; the more you practise, the more likely you are to have a successful outcome. Expect a successful outcome and that is what will happen. No self doubt, only self belief.
