Calling all those dancehall sweethearts

Did you meet your sweetheart at a dance hall? If so, award-winning DoubleBand Films – a Belfast-based TV production company – wants to hear from you!

DoubleBand Films, the leading documentary makers behind Super 8 Stories and Making the Monkees is making a three-part series for BBC NI, charting the colourful history of dancehalls in Northern Ireland in the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s.

They want to hear from people with interesting tales and special personal memories of the dance halls, especially love stories.

Across generations, the dance halls of Northern Ireland were the setting for learning the latest dance moves, hearing the popular bands of the day play and meeting future wives and husbands.

The company is keen to hear from anyone who danced and romanced at the following halls:

n Plaza – Chichester Street, Belfast

n Maritime Club, Belfast

n Sammy Houston’s jazz club, Belfast

n Flamingo, Ballymena

n Arcadia, Portrush
