High rise loose flare is the latest look in denim

By Rebecca McAllister LOVE them or loathe them, skinny jeans have been the story of the autumn/winter season.

But the drainpipe look's days are numbered and Ballymena fashionistas will be trying on a new style if they want to be wearing the key look for summer - the high waisted kick flare.

The oringinal British denim brand MiH jeans led the way with the

new 'it' jean with celebs like Katie Holmes, Jennifer Connelly and Nicole Kidman spotted wearing their classic kick flare Marrakesh jeans. Scarlett Johansson and Keira Knightley have also been spotted in MiH's high waisted Berlin jeans.

I decided to take a trip round Ballymena and see what our local shops had on offer.

Primark had mostly flare jeans which ranged from 6 to 12 they had something for everyone with different designs but it mostly appeared to be dark denim which ranged from sizes 8 to 18.

The next shop on my list was River Island.

They mostly had high waisted jeans with kick flares priced 39.99.

Sales advisor Jenna Leighton said: "The 70's kick flare appears to be the in-thing.

"We've still got skinny jeans are but kick flares coming in to stock now."

River Island fan and student Sara Lamont from Ballymena

said: "The jeans I prefer would be 'skinnies' from River Island or Topshop because I like the designs such as zips.

"They're not too expensive and they are really comfortable.

"I don't think I'd suit high waisted kick flares but I suppose I'd try them and see what they're like especially if they are the new 'in' jean."

Topshop are offering a skinny flare style which come in different leg lengths at 40.

Marks and Spencers had kick flares in sizes for everyone. Costing 35, they come in a range of dark, light and black denim.

Bootcut jeans are also at the bargain price of 19.50.

Clockwork Orange is bursting with 70's style kick flared jeans.

Sales advisor Richard Millar has no doubt about this season's new 'in' jean.

He said: "High rise loose flare is the latest in fashion jean.

"'Skinnies' are going out and soft bootcut are also coming in this season."
