VIDEO: Christmas market makes 'tasty' return

THOUSANDS are expected to descend on Belfast's Christmas continental market after traders opened for business in 2009.

More than 750,000 people visited the now annual event at the City Hall last year and those figures are expected to be surpassed over the course of the next month.

The global flavour of the market continues with traders setting up stalls from as far afield as the North Pole, Africa and the United States.

A new addition this year is Indian chef, Jaz Bansil, who will be specialising in takeaway treats to suit all palettes.

Other foods on offer include old favourites such as Julian Jimenez' paella, a hog roast, crepes, German bratwurst and other exotic meats.

For those with a sweeter tooth, delights such as chocolate waffles, Dutch pancakes and Italian nougat are also on the menu.

Given the festive season, the continental market would not be complete without Father Christmas who will be resident in his own specially designed grotto for the duration of the event.

This year's market was officially opened by Lord Mayor Naomi Long.

The market is open from 9am to 8pm on Monday to Wednesday and from 9am to 10pm on Thursday to Saturday. Opening hours on Sundays are from 1pm to 6pm.

The event continues until Saturday 19 December.
