VIDEO: NI v Poland - the fans' view

NORTHERN Ireland fans are hoping their team will take another big scalp in their crucial World Cup qualifier.

Having put England, Spain, Sweden and Denmark to the sword at Windsor Park in recent years, the Green and White Army will do their best in their role as the famous 'twelfth man' as Nigel Worthington's side face Poland on Saturday evening.

Having not beaten the Poles since 1991, supporters will be keeping their fingers crossed that David Healy and his teammates can create another memorable evening in south Belfast.

Northern Ireland boss, Worthington, described the fans earlier this week as "magnificent" and does not underestimate the role they can play in his team's performance.

Speaking to the News Letter website, Amalgamation spokesman Gary McAllister admits those in the terraces at Windsor Park have a vital role to play in getting behind their team in the usual vociferous manner.

The avid supporter also maintains Northern Ireland, although difficult, must collect at least a minimum of four points in Saturday's game and against Slovenia on Wednesday to stand a realistic chance of reaching the finals in South Africa next year.

Northern Ireland currently sit second in Group Three, but have played a game more than their main rivals.

Despite the loss of several key players through injury and suspension, Gary pointed to the return of established internationals like Jonny Evans and Sammy Clingan who missed last month's 3-0 victory in San Marino.

The World Cup qualifier kicks off at Windsor Park at 5.15pm.
