ATTACKS on firefighters are nothing short of a disgrace, Health and Public Safety Minister Michael McGimpsey said yesterday, calling for zero tolerance for offenders who lash out at any emergency workers.
Speaking after a weekend which saw a spate of incidents, he said the attacks on fire crews place firefighters’ lives in danger and put communities at risk.

The minister said it was absolutely unacceptable for anyone to assault emergency workers and said people who did were simply cowards.

He said: “All our emergency workers strive to protect and save the population from harm.

“These attacks are cowardly and criminal, and have no place in a civilised society.

“The perpetrators need to be caught and they need to be punished.”
