ULSTER: Speed limits should be reduced by a third in built up areas, an Assemblyman has said.
Foyle MLA Pat Ramsey said that current 30mph speed limits should be cut to 20mph.

Mr Ramsey has told the Minister for Regional Development Conor Murphy that he thinks speed limits in residential and commercial areas should be reduced from 30mph to 20mph.

The SDLP MLA said: “I have asked the Minister for Regional Development to reduce speed limits in housing estates and other built up areas to 20mph.

“There is no doubt that, if speeds are reduced even slightly, the number of accidents, serious injuries and deaths are dramatically reduced.

“The minister confirmed this in a previous Assembly question I asked him about speed reductions.”
