PADDY Power has opened betting on how much the childhood home of football legend George Best will sell for.
The bookie is also giving odds on who the likely owner of the east Belfast house will be - with George's son, Calum, the favourite at 5/1.

Outsiders include football icons Pele at 80/1 and Maradonna at 11/1 - but race ace Eddie Irvine comes in at 40/1.

George's old Belfast home, 16 Burren Way, in the sprawling Cregagh estate went on the market on Tuesday with a £165,000 guide price and an offer has already been made.

The bookie thinks it unlikely the home will sell for that and is offering odds of 20/1 that it will go for the offer.

Paddy Power favours a more realistic price band of between £165,000 and £175,000 and have made this their 13/8 favourite.

Mr Power said: "We had several queries from Belfast punters wondering if we'd take bets on the eventual selling price and we thought this was a great idea.

"Already we've taken a fair few quid on a selling price of between £165k and £175k, so we're really hoping it will go for more."

Estate agent Neil Templeton of Templeton Robinson is axting for the Best family in the sale.

He laughed when he heard about the punting offer, and said: "Nobody on that list's been in touch with us, but I'd love to hear from any of them."

Mr Templeton said the betting idea could only be good for the real estate business.

"The current climate is not so good, so it's great to hear a fun, good news story.

"As a Manchester United fan myself, I'm honoured to be allowed to deal with this sale, but like all agents we want to get the best deal for the family.

"That was Dickie's wish, so if any or all of those people on the list want to contact me, I'd be more than happy to try and make a deal."

He said there had already been phenomenal interest in the house and an offer of the asking price had already been made.

"We've been inundated with inquiries from around the world and people wanting to view, some of who are genuine and some just fans who want to have a look around.

"I hope this can drum up even more interest and we get a good price for the family, but I'd love to hear from someone famous."

Odds on how much will George Best's house sell for stand as follows:
20/1 Under £165,001; 13/8 £165,002 - £175,000; 9/4 £175,001 - £185,000; 7/2 £185,001 - £195,000; 8/1 £195,001 - £205,000; 4/1 Over £205,000

Odds on Who will buy Best's House at the monent stand at 5/1 Calum Best; 12/1 The Ulster Sports Museum Association; 18/1 Pat Jennings; 20/1 Liam Brady; 20/1 David Healy; 25/1 Alex Best; 25/1 Iain Dowie; 33/1 Nigel Worthington; 40/1 Eddie Irvine; 40/1 Sammy McIIroy; 50/1; Alex Ferguson; 80/1 Pele; 80/1 Rodney Marsh; 100/1 Maradona; 100/1 Bobby Charlton; 100/1 Lawrie Sanchez; 500/1 Alex Pursey.
