BELFAST: A Ballymena man who sold drugs to feed his own addiction was yesterday handed a three-year prison sentence after being found in possession of cocaine and amphetamines.
Stephen Samuel Thompson had a further three months added onto his sentence for obstructing a police constable during his arrest last summer.

Belfast Crown Court heard that on June 24 last year, police on mobile patrol on the Doagh Road in Newtownabbey saw a Vauxhall Passat swerving on the road and crossing the central white line.

Police stopped the car, driven by Thompson, 29, and when they opened the door they noticed a strong smell of cannabis coming from the vehicle.

Officers searched Thompson's car before noticing he was unsteady on his feet and appeared to be hiding an object down his trousers.

Crown prosecutor Amanda Brady said Thompson, from Rossdale in Ballymena, pushed passed the officers and fled the scene on foot.
