ACCORDING to the Civil Aviation Authority, several attempts have been made to distract pilots on inbound journeys to Belfast City Airport.
The body estimates at least five attempts have been made over the course of the past six months to dazzle pilots escorting passengers into Northern Ireland.

In one such instance, a laser beam was ponted at a pilot of a Boeing 737 as he made his approach to the airport in August.

Similar attempts were made over the Halloween period, focusing on traffic at the Belfast facility.

A spokesperson for the British Airline pilots Association reminded perpetrators that they can be prosecuted for their actions as well as endangering lives.

"We would like to see anybody who is stupid enough to do this, put behind bars and taught a lesson," she said.
