A 20-year-old man has been charged with the murder of former IRA prisoner Frank 'Bap' McGreevy.
He is due to appear before Belfast Magistrates Court today.
He is also charged with being unlawfully at large, two counts of assault and three counts of criminal damage.
Mr McGreevy, a father of two, died after being beaten up to 60 times at his home in the lower Falls area of west Belfast.
He was found injured by his 15-year-old son Francis.
He also had another son Tiernan, nine.
Mr McGreevy had been on a life support machine following Saturday's attack on Ross Street.
He died on Tuesday afternoon.
Hours after his death a vigil was called outside his home where Elizabeth McCartan – Mr McGreevy's sister – called for the community to come together against what she called "an evil in our society".
Ms McCartan also recalled the death of Harry Holland, another west Belfast resident.
"It was absolutely horrendous, you never would have thought it would come to your door," she said.
"It has come to our door and it will come to somebody else's door unless the community joins together and gets rid of it because they are an evil in our society."
Last night detectives investigating the murder said they are keen to locate a pair of Lacoste training shoes which they believe could assist them in their investigation.
