McGuinness' mum dies after illness

THE mother of Northern Ireland Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness died today after a short illness.
Peggy McGuinness, 84, died at her home at Elmwood Street, Londonderry, this morning, a Sinn Fein spokesman said.

Comfort

Sinn Fein deputy chief Mr McGuinness is being comforted by family and friends.

Fellow ministers added their support.

Leader of the SDLP Mark Durkan said: "I am saddened to hear of the death of Peggy McGuinness. She was a very kindly woman with real charm.

"I offer sincere condolences to Martin McGuinness and Peggy's entire family at their sad loss."
