POP superstar Kylie Minogue 'wow'ed the thousands of Ulster fans who flocked to the Odyssey Arena in Belfast on Thursday night as she kicked off her four-night stint in the city.
Almost 20 years have passed since the Aussie pop princess headlined a show in the Province, but she didn't disappoint.
The singer is well known for putting on a show, and this, the KylieX2008 Tour, is no different – 14 dancers and four acrobats joined her on stage, as well as the usual extravagant and over-the-top costumes, state-of-the-art graphic staging and theatrical lighting.
Tiny in stature perhaps, but Ms Minogue owned the stage as soon as she appeared on it, dressed in a dark purple "spider's web" dress.
The delighted crowd – which included a mix of all ages and both sexes – watched on as she emerged, and then cheered as the now-famous lyrics "la-la-la...la-la-la-la-la" filled the arena.
Groups of girls draped in feather boas and cowboy hats boogied as the star belted out old favourite Can't Get You Outta My Head before launching into In Your Eyes and other hits including the recent Wow.
The string of top tunes were accompanied by energetic dance routines from the 40-year-old who battled breast cancer after being diagnosed in 2005 – she had to postpone her Showgirl tour as a result and didn't return to the stage until December 2006 when she performed in Sydney.
The last time she played properly in the Province was in 1990 as part of her Enjoy Yourself tour.
