TACKLING anti-social behaviour in north and west Belfast is a priority, the police commander for the area insisted yesterday after Sinn Fein leader Gerry Adams claimed the PSNI were not doing enough.
Chief Superintendent Gary White said the Lower Falls was receiving particular attention but the police needed the continued support of the community and other agencies.
GangHe said police were aware of a small minority engaged in criminal activity and had identified a group of 35 individuals involved in anti-social type crimes in the area.
"In the last 12 months approximately 250 separate cases have been or are currently being dealt with through the criminal justice system in relation to these individuals," he said.
"The reality is that the more support we get, the more we can do to stop incidents from occurring in the first place and also bring those that are intent on wreaking misery on the lives of ordinary decent people living in the Lower Falls area before the courts.
"We we will act on any information that we receive."
AttackMr Adams had launched a blistering attack on the police, claiming "the PSNI is not up to the job at this time of providing the civic policing service that the public demands and needs".
