PSNI officers have been injured following a road rampage incident.
The injuries were sustained during the arrest of a man described as being in a 'vulnerable state' in Dunmurry.

A total of seven vehicles were involved in the incident, including five police cars, which took place on Friday morning.

Another motorist caught up in the drama sustained minor injuries.

Police became concerned for public safety after a report an individual driving erratically had left an address in nearby Ballyskeagh this morning.

His vehicle was in collison with several parked cars before failing to stop when requested to do so.

The car was later spotted by police at the junction of the Blacks Road and Upper Lisburn Road in south Belfast.

The red vauxhall vectra was then boxed in by police cars outside Dunmurry before the driver was arrested.

Alliance representative Trevor Lunn praised the "bravery" of PSNI personnel in averting a possible disaster.

"This was a very shocking incident for local people, but it appears that police have averted a potential disaster on our roads," the Lagan Valley MLA said.

"People must not think that they can get away with playing Grand Theft Auto with peoples lives. The police simply must crack down on wreckless drivers."

A police spokesperson confirmed the Police Ombudsman's office had been informed and a full police investigation was underway.

The road has since re-opened between Blacks Road and Dunmurry Lane crossroads following diversions being in place for several hours.
