TUV leader Jim Allister hosted a highly-charged debate on the News Letter website on Wednesday.

The outspoken MEP participated in a one-hour web chat, answering the questions of the general public.

Such was the interest, the online session had to be extended by up to 20 minutes such was the volume of questioning.

Issues raised by participants included power-sharing with republicans, next year's scheduled election to the European Parliament and even the Maze stadium debate.

Mr Allister resigned from the DUP in March last year over the party's decision to enter government with Sinn Fein.

His TUV party caused rumblings in February when it stood at the Dromore by-election, securing a significant portion of the DUP vote.

The TUV held its inaugural party conference earlier this month in which Mr Allister confirmed he will stand for re-election to Brussels and go head-to-head once more with his old political allies at next year's Euro poll.
