THE Irish Football Association has promised to review arrangements for ticket collection after hundreds of fans missed parts of Wednesday night's friendly against Hungary.
Frustrated supporters were made to wait for over an hour in a queue to collect pre-ordered tickets at the association's headquarters in south Belfast.
Such was the delay, fans were forced to arrive late at nearby Windsor Park with many missing the
first half of their team's 2-0 defeat. It is believed Hungarian supporters were also caught up in the ticketing fiasco.
One Markethill fan, who was collecting tickets for a group, including four who were watching Nigel Worthington's team for the first time, explained how he did not get into the IFA's headquarters until 8.15pm – 30 minutes after the scheduled kick-off. When entering the building, fans were met by only one member of staff.
"I don't blame the girl distributing the tickets, she was on her own and was only doing her best," the angry supporter told Radio Ulster.
As the match was a friendly fixture, many block bookers opted not to renew their tickets, ensuring more were available for general sale. The game was not a sell-out with approximately 10,000 in attendance.
In a statement, the Irish FA apologised for any inconvenience caused.
"Tickets had been on sale for over a week prior to the game with ticket collection available from November 13," it read.
"In addition, a facility to post tickets was also made available to supporters from November 13 onwards.
"The association will review its arrangements for ticket collection and sales on the night of the next up and coming matches in Belfast."
