A PARTIALLY detonated device has been found in a toy shop in Cookstown.
Army technical officers dealt with the suspicious object at the premises on Dungannon Road on Friday evening.

The device was found hidden within a hot food takeaway container in the Toymaster store.

A search was also carried out at a Tesco supermarket in the Orritor Road area of the town.

The alerts were raised following a telephone call to a media organisation.

A police spokesperson has urged business owners to check their premises as a matter of good practice and to continually review security measures.

She also called on members of the public to remain vigilant as investigations into the exact nature of the object continue.

Cookstown councillor Tony Quinn condemned the disruption the alerts had caused to local businesses.

"These were senseless acts," the SDLP man said.
