COLERAINE: People in Coleraine are being urged to be on the alert for so-called 'rogue workmen' by police.
Constable Debbie Barber, who is the crime prevention officer for the area, said that people should try to only use reputable and long established firms rather than trusting people who arrive on their doorstep unannounced.

“This is important, because if the job is being undertaken by rogue workmen who are not based locally, and it turns out to be unsatisfactory, you have little or no chance of contacting them to complain or to seek redress, whereas with locally based companies, householders are able to inspect the quality of the firm’s work in advance, are able to speak to them directly at their premises and can obtain proper written quotations before any work begins,” she said.
