LONDONDERRY: The work of Ulster nurses has been praised by Foyle SDLP MP Mark Durkan on International Nurses Day, which celebrates the birthday of the most famous nurse of all time, Florence Nightingale.
Speaking at the city’s Waterside Hospital, the SDLP leader said nursing was a profession that attracted a “special kind of person”.

He said: “It requires a great deal of dedication, a lot of hard work and patience and an enormous amount of compassion. I salute those attributes in all of our local nurses.

“An event like this is important for nurses who can renew their own sense of vocation and role within the community.”
