A lesson in PR for Rory McIlroy

editorial image

editorial image

LIKE that old adage, you cannot put an old head on young shoulders, our Rory (McIlroy) is learning the hard way, as most of us did.

One moment Rory is riding on the crest of the wave of phenomenal golfing skills, along with a gifted, open personality and charm that attracts a global following few of us could ever equal.

With a deep obsession, the media follows his every move, hoping to get an ‘exclusive’, be that a savoury (or unsavoury) item of news, photograph or comment that will please their editor and/or make them a lot of money.

Rory is, and always will be from now on, bombarded with double-meaning questions. Plausibly innocent they may seem at the time, but every answer will be recorded in detail to be used at any future date as required.

So the advice I offer to Rory is to get yourself a public relations consultant and let him/her deal with the media.

Your golfing skills will return overnight and life will be a joy once again.

This minor setback in Palm Springs should be a lesson to you as to how the media performs, as well as highlighting the ones who stood by you and the ones who tried to malign you.
