Aussie comic shows laughter is the best medicine

Review: Andy Hills' Inflatable Tour at the Waterfront Hall Studio

THE comedy genius of Adam Hills was on full show as the Australian

funnyman performed his Inflatable show at the Waterfront Studio in Belfast on Wednesday night.

The intimate confines of the venue were perfect for Hills' frequent

interaction with the audience, both in the front rows and towards the

back, and even when he was working without a microphone it wasn't a hindrance to his performance.

To be totally honest, I have never laughed so hard in my life during

the hour-and-a-half of bellytickling fun.

If anything can lift the economic doom and the winter gloom, it's a

night in stand-up comedy.

Having previously seen the Perrier-award nominated comedian on television, Adam Hills was superb live on stage.

Rule number one at any stand-up comedy gig – don't turn up late unless you want the comedian to make fun of you.

You will never be able to sneak in unnoticed, and then the attention

of the whole audience will be turned towards the late-comers.

Hills ruthlessly picked on the tardy as he continued to engage with a very receptive audience at every opportunity and in turn make almost everything sound hilariously funny.

My husband and I didn't escape the comic wit of the Aussie,

thought an Australian rugby top might have drawn his attention to

ourselves.

The sending up of my Russian/Australian/Ulster accent was good humoured and we roared with laughter at ourselves as much as the rest of the audience.

Hills' wit stood up to any circumstances the very varied

crowd presented him with.

He genuinely attempted to bond with the Australian ladies, the teenagers

in the front row, or the middleaged men becoming "grumpy old men" like him.

He made fun of the Irish accent, claimed that deaf people were racist and generally poked fun at all of human kind.

Sometimes the issues and statements are contentious but offence is never meant, the statements are more thoughtprovoking with a humorous underside.

A thoroughly hilarious show from one of the best comedians around.
