Lord Mayor Nichola Mallon will hold a reception for Commonwealth Games athletes

The Lord Mayor of Belfast has congratulated the Northern Ireland Commonwealth Games competitors on their achievements in Glasgow.

Nichola Mallon now intends to host a reception in City Hall to pay tribute to their dedication and commitment to sport.

“The entire NI squad did a fantastic job but special mention must go to our gold medal winners – both from Belfast – boxers, Paddy Barnes and Michael Conlon,” she said.

“My congratulations go to all who competed at Glasgow.

“They really are our sporting heroes and their achievements deserve to be recognised.

“The time and effort these athletes dedicate to their craft is outstanding.

“I have no doubt that all of them will inspire the next generation of sporting stars to reach the same heights as they have.

“It will be with great pride and pleasure that I pay tribute to them at a reception in City Hall.”

Team NI competitors arrived back in Belfast on Monday night.
