Joshua Martin from Donaghadee was diagnosed with cancer in December 2014 and had battled bravely to remain in school where he was studying for his GCSEs.

An online campaign for the 15-year-old Bangor Grammar pupil, #prayforjosh, had received support from Holywood golfer Rory McIlroy and thousands of others around the world.

Kim said: “We are devastated beyond words to tell you that our beautiful son passed away this evening.

“Joshua was the most amazing young man, brave and mature beyond his years. His life and testimony touched hundreds of thousands of people worldwide and we are so very thankful that the power of God touched him in a way that many people don’t experience in a lifetime.

“While we are heartbroken, we have a deep peace knowing that Joshua is with His Heavenly Father in glory.
