Up to 700 new homes are planned for east Belfast in what has been hailed as the biggest single housing development ever in the city. The scheme is valued at £120 million by the firm involved, Lagan Homes.

Millmount Village in East Belfast is a 90 acre site that will provide up to 700 new homes supporting the strategic need for the development of more houses in Greater Belfast and across Northern Ireland. The project is set to employ 100 people for the next 10 years.

Construction at Millmount Village, off the Comber Road has already seen the completion of 80 homes with families moving in in August and September.

The project follows the announcement earlier this year that the firm is developing a £90m, 550 unit project in Bangor.

“Millmount represents one of the most significant planned housing developments ever to be built in Northern Ireland,” said Lagan Homes MD Conor Mulligan.

With a long standing undersupply he said new buiding was essential to address the housing gap.

“The growing demand for housing in Northern Ireland has been well documented, with less than half of the projected need over the last eight years having been delivered,” he said.
