High street giant Argos is taking on more than 10,000 temporary workers to cope with the annual surge in business over the festive season.

Around 9,800 customer advisers and stock assistants will be hired at 800 Argos stores to meet customer demand for toys, electrical goods, video games, jewellery and other popular Christmas gifts.

The company is also seeking around 1,000 drivers for its door delivery service.

Recruits will be offered a minimum of 10 hours a week, with the potential for some roles to become permanent at the end of the season.

“Christmas is an extremely busy and exciting time of year for Argos with millions of customers visiting our stores over the festive season,” said Steve Carson, director of the company’s retail and customer operations.

“We’re looking for enthusiastic, friendly and flexible people to deliver the personal service we are known for, whether customers are shopping in-store or buying online for home delivery.

“Many in the past have gone on to develop their career with us and progress to run a team, department or even store, helping to drive sales and deliver great customer service.”
