Belfast legal firm to go international
LEGAL firm McGrigors which has a substantial presence in Belfast confirmed yesterday it plans to merge with international law firm Pinsent Masons.
The Scottish based firm, which merged two years ago with Belfast practice L’Estrange and Brett, now employs around 100 people in Belfast.
The combined firm, which will operate worldwide under the name and brand of Pinsent Masons, will employ more than 2,500 people in total including more than 1,500 lawyers, 500 of whom will be based in Pinsent Masons’ international headquarters in the City of London.
The firm will have market-leading UK coverage, with a significant presence in each of the UK’s three legal jurisdictions.
Its international profile, which already encompasses four offices in Asia Pacific, will include two Gulf offices in Dubai and Qatar. Two more offices in France and Germany are expected to launch during 2012.
“This is fantastic news for the firm and for our Northern Ireland clients,” said Paul McBride, a partner at McGrigors in Belfast.
“Over the past two years we have seen first-hand the benefits of being part of a wider UK network, creating new connections and opportunities for our clients.
“This deal will give us a greater level of international reach which will further enhance our ability to assist our clients, no matter where they are doing business.”
Chris Mullen, senior partner at Pinsent Masons, said the firms were looking forward to growing together.
“We believe this is the best way to deliver an even better offering to our UK and international clients who demand both a broad range of high quality services and excellent value.
“We’re really looking forward to joining up and getting on with our plans together.”
