Companies challenged to walk the walk
NORTHERN Ireland firms have been challenged to pit themselves against their rivals and benchmark their performance in this year's All-Ireland Best Managed Companies Awards.
Run in association with Bank of Scotland (Ireland), judges are searching for 25 companies across the island of Ireland which demonstrate superior business performance.
Outlining the sort of attributes the judging panel will be looking for, Gillian Russell, senior partner at Deloitte, said they would be looking beyond straightforward sales, profit or turnover.
“We will be taking a holistic view of the companies; their performance in relation to their peers; and the industries that they are operating in, in order to determine management success,” she said.
“Never has it been more important to recognise and celebrate those companies that are demonstrating leadership.
“These awards will allow the best companies in Northern Ireland to be benchmarked against the best on the island of Ireland.
“Last year’s winners demonstrated the depth of management talent that is present today and we are confident that we will discover a fresh crop of companies this year that are excelling in today’s challenging environment.
“We are very much looking forward to acknowledging their achievements and I would encourage as many Northern Ireland companies as possible to enter.”
An independent judging panel, led by Denis Brosnan and including judges from Northern Ireland, will measure prospective companies’ performance by looking at a broad range of criteria including strategy, capability, commitment and management performance across all key functions of the business.
It is the only awards programme that considers companies from every perspective and evaluates the management practices of companies.
“It’s fair to say that the past number of months have proven to be tough for businesses – and few would dispute that this will continue to be the case in the near future,” said Stephen McDonald, regional director of Bank of Scotland (Ireland).
