New jobs as Belfast hotel gets go-ahead
UP to 60 jobs are set to be created in Belfast after planning permission was approved by Environment Minister Alex Attwood yesterday for a new hotel in the city.
The new 130-bed development on Great Victoria Street is being pursued by Belfast entrepreneur Lord Diljit Rana, owner of the Andras House property group.
The company already operates a number of hotels in the city including the Days Inn on Sandy Row, close to the site of the proposed building.
“A new hotel in Great Victoria Street would be a real boost to the tourist industry here, while creating work for the construction sector,” said Mr Attwood.
“Stimulating the economy is a key ingredient in programme for government.
“It would also bring back life to an area which is currently underused, transforming a car park into an attractive tourist attraction in the heart of the city and improving the Great Victoria Street skyline.
“What I and DOE are about is making Northern Ireland a better place to live, work and invest and this would certainly contribute to that.”
