STUDENTSHIPS UP FOR GRABS

THE Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (DARD) will be awarding a number of Postgraduate Research Studentships for the academic year beginning October 2008.

These are aimed at those students whose expertise will enhance the agriculture, food and rural sectors in the future.

The Department's Postgraduate Research Studentships are intended to assist candidates to obtain the necessary qualifications and experience to fit them for advisory, teaching, research and other technical work in the agriculture and food industries and in the development of the economic and social infrastructure of rural areas.

In considering applications, account is taken of the potential contribution of the study or research to the Strategic Vision and Goals of the Department.

Students will be selected on a competitive basis for the Studentships which are for full-time study only and will be for a period of research normally leading to PhD qualification.

Application forms for the DARD Postgraduate Agriculture and Food Studentships are available from the Department's web site at www.dardni.gov.uk and can be found in the Learning and Education section under Postgraduate Study or by telephoning DARD's Education and Finance Branch, tel: 028 9052 4710 to request an application form and booklet.

Completed forms should be sent to: Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, Education and Finance Branch, Room 555, Dundonald House, Upper Newtownards Road, Belfast BT4 3SB.

The closing date for the acceptance of completed applications is 5pm on Friday, 29 February 2008 and references should be supplied on or before Friday 14 March 2008.

Late applications cannot be considered by the Department.
