Cookstown owner Karro Food Group has secured a supply contract with Asda for its new reduced fat sausage.

The deal will see the brand’s new sausage stocked in 16 Asda stores across Northern Ireland.

The contract builds on Karro’s existing relationship with Asda, with the retailer already listing an extensive range of Cookstown sausages, bacon, cooked meats, gammon and sausage rolls.

“We are committed to supporting local suppliers and Cookstown is a great example of a brand that continues to innovate in line with market trends to develop quality local products,” said Michael McCallion, Asda senior buying manager for Northern Ireland and Scotland.

“The Cookstown brand has always been very popular with Asda shoppers and the launch of the new sausage will provide a choice for those consumers who are looking for a healthier local option in the category,” he added.

Stating that the company had traded with Asda since the first stores opened in Northern Ireland in 2005, Cookstown account manager Trevor Mounstephen said that business had grown significantly over the years.

“Our ongoing relationship with Asda is great for our business and provides a marketplace for our locally sourced pork.

“It is very important for pig farmers in Northern Ireland that consumers can purchase local brands such as Cookstown in stores.

“The new reduced fat sausage was developed in response to our consumer research, which showed a gap in the market for a locally produced reduced fat alternative. Each pack has ten sausages making it perfect for families.”
