Cross-border mail service 'second class' report suggests

DESPITE its proximity to the Irish Republic, Northern Ireland postal consumers are getting a second class cross-border service, a major new study published today suggests.

The Consumer Focus Post investigation has found that customers face an average delivery time of between two and three working days when posting or receiving mail from the Republic.

The group has called for action from the main providers, Royal Mail and An Post, and their respective regulators urging them to provide a faster service reflecting the demands of today’s postal consumer.

The study also reveals that while four out of five consumers and two in three businesses expressed general satisfaction with the cross-border mail service, many felt the service should be significantly improved.

InterTradeIreland Chief Executive, Liam Nellis, said any steps to improve the speed and reliability of the service could “make a significant contribution to the ease at which business is carried out across the island”.
