Finance Minister Máirtín Ó Muilleoir has said he is committed to engaging at the highest level and on the ground to secure the best outcome for all.

Speaking after a phone conference with his counterpart, Scottish Finance Minister, Derek Mackay, he said he had had a valuable conversation “about the wider issues facing our regions, especially in how we deal with the Government in London”.

Mr Ó Muilleoir also visited Newry Chamber of Commerce and the Newry and Mourne Enterprise Agency and stressed he was aware of the task facing the Executive.

“I do not underestimate the contribution made by local businesses to developing, growing and rebalancing our economy.

“As Finance Minister, I want to do what I can to ensure they are supported to thrive.

“I believe it is vitally important for the Executive to engage on the ground to inform the decisions we take and the direction we are moving.

“This has been a very productive meeting, where I heard about the challenges facing businesses in Newry.”

The Minister met Michael McKeown, President of Newry Chamber and Liam Quinn from the Newry and Mourne Enterprise Agency.
