Food company secures major Asda contract

A CO Down company has secured its second nationwide listing with supermarket giant Asda - in a contract valued at approximately £400,000.

TS Foods’ latest product - Tony’s Chippy Beef Burgers in Crispy Batter - will go on sale in 340 Asda stores across the UK.

This success follows that of the company’s battered sausage product which in 2008 secured nationwide listings with the retailer and now ranks amongst TS Foods’ top selling products.

“Following the approach by Asda, we combined the resources of our in- house product development team and carried out extensive market research to identify a gap in the market for additional battered products - allowing the consumer to replicate the chip shop experience at home for a fraction of the cost,” said Joanne Molloy of TS Foods.

“The new product has been a great success to date, and despite the economic downturn we have been able to deliver double digit growth in sales in the last 12 months - largely based on our ability to meet the demands of major retailers such as Asda. The support and encouragement we have received from Asda has simply been fantastic.”

Asda buying manager for Northern Ireland and Scotland, Brian Conway said: “It’s fantastic to see a local producer extending its range into the entire Asda network. For a Northern Ireland supplier to secure a national contract we have to have high levels of confidence in their production capabilities, quality and supply chain process - and based on the success of these products in the company’s local Asda Downpatrick store, as well as in stores right across the Province, we knew TS Foods would have similar success in GB.

“We look forward to growing this relationship with the company in the future and in addition hope this success will inspire other local producers in the ongoing development of their products.”

TS Foods manufactures all its products in Castlewellan and employs 50 staff at its facility.
