Due to the increased demand for branded Hereford beef through the beef scheme and the significant bonus being paid for Hereford beef at the meat processors, the Northern Ireland Hereford Breeders Association organised a sale of commercial Hereford cross cattle at Dungannon Farmers mart on Tuesday 8th October 2013.
These cattle were judged by Desmond Martin with prizes for male and female cattle.
This event was a first for Hereford cattle and with a good entry of Hereford cross stores and weanlings on offer. These were well sought after with spirited bidding all lots on offer were sold with good prices received.
The top price of the day went to Ms Antoinette Traynor from Greystone with her 17month old steer at 525kgs making £1130.00
Gordon Burleigh, from Enniskillen, steers 235kgs - £590.00 and 220kgs £555.00. Tom Mohan, from Newtownbutler, females 365kgs - £800.00 and 330kgs - £785.00. Pat Magee from Augher heifer 460kgs – £910.00.
